Join us for the 3rd Annual HERS Giving Day on March 22, 2026
Our Goal: $30,000 in scholarships
HERS Giving Day is a special opportunity for our community of alums and friends to come together and empower higher education leaders.
The number of scholarship requests from leaders is increasing and is the highest in HERS history, due to institutions cutting their professional development budgets and other financial constraints. Unfortunately, that means HERS is out of reach for many aspiring leaders unless we can provide financial assistance through scholarship support.
Our goal for this year’s HERS Giving Day will be to provide tuition assistance and support so that the next generation of higher education leaders can attend the HERS Leadership Institute (HLI).
Why March 22nd?
HERS Giving Day recognizes the birthday of Lilli S. Hornig, Ph.D., HERS’s first Executive Director and a prominent chemist/scientist recognized for her work on the Manhattan Project. She was among the Los Alamos scientists who signed a petition to have a demonstration of the bomb’s destruction rather than dropping it on civilian populations in Japan.
In 1972, Dr. Hornig was a part of the trailblazing group of women who established HERS at a pivotal moment in history when groundbreaking legislation, Equal Employment Opportunity Act and Title IX of the Education Amendments, galvanized them to join together and advance opportunities for women.

Tribute and memorial giving
Honor your HLI cohort, HERS colleagues, and/or memorialize friends or family by making a gift to HERS. Please include their name(s) on the online donation form or write their name(s) on the memo line of your check.
As an alumna, make a gift in honor of your cohort by writing in your graduation year and location.
Planned gifts
Planned Gifts are documented gifts that are promised in the future. The most common types of planned gifts include bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable trusts, life insurance, real estate, and retirement plan assets. By making a planned gift, you’ll become a member of the HERS Trailblazers Giving Society. Click here to learn more about the society. Contact a member of the HERS team to get started.
Matching gifts
You and your family members may be able to double the impact of your donation through a matching gift program. Many organizations match donations made by their current and retired employees to nonprofits. Your organization’s charitable arm, HR office and/or plan administrator are typically the best place to find forms and specific requirements.
